From the ICM Archives:
A Retrospective of the 2001 Summer Intensives!
About the Summer Training
The Zohar says that the Torah is written with black fire on white fire... the black is the letters of the received text; the white is midrash, the time-honored process of interpretation that gives voice to silence, reconciles contradictions, and expresses contemporary values.
ICM Training Intensives give you an experience of a midrashic method and, most importantly, equip you to use the method for yourself and in teaching others. The 40 hours of professional training equip you with lasting tools for midrashic inquiry and expression. In our 6th year of intensive summer courses, we are still finding exciting ways to innovate, while incorporating on our previous rich experiences!
This year, being on the Bryn Mawr College campus, just outside Philadelphia, has stimulated a course that capitalizes on the remarkable Philadelphia murals renaissance, new commuter rates for those in the immediate tri-state region, the optional use of a computer lab for writing and design, and, of course, the opportunity to participate in July 4th celebrations in the city where it all began!
We will once again have a common textual "playing field" to unite the five courses. This year we will be exploring the theme of Triangular Dynamics, examining relationships among varied trios, such as Adam-Eve-God; Leah-Jacob-Rachel; Aaron-Miriam-Moses; Boaz-Naomi-Ruth; and David-Jonathan-Michal.
We hope you will join this national community of artists and group leaders, teachers and writers...people who want to encounter sacred text, our ancestors-and themselves-in new ways. Regardless of which class you choose, you will surely say, "I'll never read the Torah the same way again!"
